DU introduces new system to protect privacy of veiled female students

From now on, female teachers, female officers and female employees of Dhaka University (DU) have been given the responsibility of identifying the female students wearing niqab and hijab.

The university authorities have taken this decision so that the personal freedom and privacy of the veiled female students can be protected.

The university authorities said that keeping in mind the personal freedom and privacy, the decision has been taken to verify the identities of female students of Dhaka University wearing niqab and hijab through female teachers, female officers and female employees.

On Thursday (March 6), the Deans' Committee met in the Vice-Chancellor's meeting room and this decision was taken with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan in the chair.

The meeting informed that if necessary, the cooperation of female assistant proctors will be taken for the identification.

In addition, the university authorities also said that the feasibility of introducing fingerprinting or biometric system for identity detection will be reviewed. The university authorities hope that this system will serve as an important step in protecting privacy.
