Former Member of the Parliament from a reserved women's seat and also the vice-president of Cumilla North District unit of Awami League, Selina Islam, has been arrested from capital's Gulshan area. DB’s Joint Commissioner (North), Mohammad Robiul Hossain Bhuiyan, confirmed the matter on Saturday. He said that Selina Islam, a former MP from a reserved seat, had been taken into custody. Selina Islam is the wife of Kazi Shahid Islam Papul, former MP of Lakshmipur-2, who was convicted in Kuwait in a high-profile money laundering and human trafficking case. A Kuwait-based industrialist, Selina Islam was elected to 11th National Parliament as an independent candidate from Reserved Women's Seat-49.

সংরক্ষিত নারী আসনের সাবেক সংসদ সদস্য ও কুমিল্লা উত্তর জেলা আওয়ামী লীগের সহ-সভাপতি সেলিনা ইসলামকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে ঢাকা মহানগর গোয়েন্দা (ডিবি) পুলিশ। শনিবার (১০ মে) দুপুরে তাঁর গ্রেপ্তারের বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করেন ডিবির যুগ্ম কমিশনার (উত্তর) মোহাম্মদ রবিউল হোসেন ভূঁইয়া। তিনি জানান, রাজধানী ঢাকা থেকে সেলিনা ইসলামকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়েছে। জানা গেছে, সেলিনা ইসলাম আলোচিত অর্থ ও মানবপাচার মামলায় কুয়েতে সাজাপ্রাপ্ত লক্ষ্মীপুর-২ আসনের সাবেক এমপি কাজী শহীদ ইসলাম পাপুলের স্ত্রী। কুয়েতে প্রবাসী শিল্পপতি হিসেবেও তিনি পরিচিত। একাদশ জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচনে তিনি সংরক্ষিত মহিলা আসন-৪৯ থেকে স্বতন্ত্র প্রার্থী হিসেবে নির্বাচিত হয়েছিলেন।
