Finance adviser warns against hoarding of consumer goods during Ramadan
Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has said that the government will be strict against illegal hoarding of consumer goods during the month of Ramadan.
He told this to reporters after the meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement at the Secretariat on Thursday (February 20).
The finance adviser said, “Even though there is a supply of food, many times that food does not reach the consumers. It remains hoarded in the warehouse, it is hidden. This should not happen in any way. We will ensure this during Ramadan. District Administrators have been instructed to monitor locally so that there is no manipulation at the wholesale and retail levels in the consumer goods market.”
He said, “There was a very long meeting today, there were many agendas. Among them are rice, fertiliser imports, construction of fertiliser warehouses, some roads, bridges and port roads.”
The finance adviser said, "The food situation is not bad now. Now the prices of other products will increase or decrease. I said that there are many types of food in a person's budget, the price of one will decrease and one will increase. Overall or if you look at it in broad terms, it is quite tolerable. Our statistics say that the prices of food products have decreased.”
He said, "Ramadan is coming, we will increase market monitoring further. The chief adviser also said that at the DC conference. I also told them to monitor at the local level. There should be no manipulation at the wholesale and retail levels. We will ensure this during Ramadan.”
He further said, “We have set up special sales centers. So, we will ensure that the common people do not face any difficulties in getting essential goods."
