Govt adequately prepared to deal with Jamaat-Shibir: Law minister
Law Minister Anisul Haque has said that the government has adequate preparations to deal with Jamaat-e-Islami and its student organisation Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir.
He made the comment in reply to a question while talking to reporters at the Secretariat in the capital on Thursday (August 1).
The government has issued a notification banning Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir.
In response to the question whether Jamaat-Shibir will go underground (running activities in secret) if it is banned, the minister said, "It can go underground. Many groups have gone underground, you know what happened to those. But we are prepared to deal with it.”
In reply to a question, the law minister said, "We have also made arrangements to amend the International Crimes (Tribunal) Act. It is not that a Jamaat activist would not be punished even after being banned. Maybe the matter of banning will not come in the sentence.”
In reply to a query over wat will happen to the assets of the party after banning, Anisul Haque said, "That will also be arranged. It is in the law.”
Asked whether disciplinary action will be taken against the members of the party, the law minister said, "They cannot do politics under this party. If they commit a crime under any law of Bangladesh, it will be judged.”
The new activists of Jamaat-e-Islami who were born after 1971 will not be judged, he added.
