Govt to reconsider canceled press accreditation cards
The Press Information Department (PID) will reconsider cancelled accreditation cards of journalists in applicable cases.
The PID issued a statement in this regard on Thursday (December 19) afternoon.
Recently, a number of accreditation cards were cancelled by PID.
The statement said that the reasons for card cancellation include not renewing the card for a long time, receiving cards in excess of the quota of the relevant institution, yellow journalism, being used as a political tool of the previous government to gain personal gain, being a defendant in a criminal case, being arrested and imprisoned for various reasons, receiving cards for political considerations by unprofessional individuals, smuggling information from government institutions and misusing press accreditation cards, playing a negative role and inciting the student-public movement against discrimination, being a close ally of fascism, spreading rumors, etc.
According to the statement, if any professional journalist does not consider the cancellation of his card justified, they can inform the authorities in writing. The department will take further necessary action by examining those applications.
