Historic March 7 not being observed at DU this year
Dhaka University (DU) usually celebrates the historic March 7 with great enthusiasm every year. However, this year, due to political changes, the historic day will not be observed at the university.
After the political changes on August 5, the names of several buildings named after Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family in universities across the country were changed. Some students also destroyed structures built in their names. As part of this, the name of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall at Dhaka University was also changed.
Given the situation, a Dhaka University teacher, who wished to remain anonymous, said, "Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered his speech on March 7. Currently, the campus is dominated by Chhatra Shibir and Chhatra Dal students. Observing March 7 to honor Bangabandhu could lead to an unstable environment on campus. Therefore, the university administration has decided not to observe March 7 this year."
Regarding the matter, Dhaka University Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed, told Views Bangladesh, "March 7 will not be observed this year." However, he did not provide any explanation for the decision.
