ICT Chief Prosecutor Golam Arif Tipu dies
Golam Arif Tipu, the chief prosecutor of International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), passed away at a hospital in the capital. He breathed his last around 8.00am on Friday.
Prosecutor Mokhlesur Rahman Badal confirmed the matter. He said, "Golam Arif Tipu died this morning due to old age complications. He was 93 years old. No decision has been made yet regarding his Janaza and burial."
In 1952, the Bengali language movement in Rajshahi was mainly organized under Golam Arif Tipu's leadership. He served as the joint convener of the Rajshahi region of Rashtrabhasha Sangram Parishad. He was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2019 by the Government of Bangladesh for his special contribution to the language movement.
Born on August 28, 1931, in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district, Golam Arif Tipu completed his secondary in 1948 at Kaliachar school and higher secondary in 1950 at Rajshahi College. Tipu after completing graduation from the Rajshahi College in Law had come to Dhaka and completed his post graduation in Law from Dhaka University.
Tipu started his career as a lawyer in 1958. He was elected President of Rajshahi Lawyers Association for several times. He was also elected Senate and Syndicate member of Rajshahi University and member of Bangladesh Bar Council.
