Joint operation in the offing in Bandarban: DIG
Chattogram Range Deputy Inspector General of Police Nur-e-Alam Mina said a joint operation will be conducted under the leadership of the army in Bandarban to contain the increasing criminal activities in the district.
He said this to reporters after visiting branches two banks where money was looted in Thanchi upazila on Thursday (April 4) afternoon.
The DIG said eight to nine cases can be filed over the bank robberies in Ruma and Thanchi on various charges including robbery of bank money and attack on police.
All the preparations to file the cases are going on, he added.
Mina said the banks were attacked to collect funds. The bank’s branch in Ruma has more money, so the robbers tried to break the vault. And as there was a market day on the day of the incident in Thanchi, transactions were supposed to be higher. For which reason, the robbers targeted the bank on that eday.
The DIG said the looted weapons must be recovered. Health condition of the kidnapped bank officer Nizam Uddin is satisfactory. The bank manager will soon be rescued unharmed.
