Journos granted 6-day Eid vacation
Journalists, officials and employees working in newspapers are getting a vacation of 6 consecutive days on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr for the first time since the independence of Bangladesh.
An official announcement was made following the meeting of the Newspaper Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) on Saturday (April 6). As a result, media activists will enjoy a vacation of 6 consecutive days, from April 9 to 14.
As per tradition, journalists typically get a three-day vacation every year from Ramadan 29 to Eid. However, when fasting extends to 30 days, this holiday extends to four days. Following this tradition, the maximum holiday period is supposed to be from April 9 to 12.
However, this year, April 14 falls on Pahela Baisakh, just one day after the Eid holiday, and coincides with a government-scheduled holiday. To address this, the Newspaper Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) has decided to declare a special holiday on April 13.
Regarding this matter, Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, the treasurer of NOAB and editor-in-chief of Manabzamin newspaper, said, "Due to the one-day gap between the Eid holidays and the occurrence of Pahela Baisakh, a special holiday is being granted in between."
