Legendary actor Jamaluddin Hossain laid to rest in Canada
Ekushey Padak winner and eminent actor Jamaluddin Hussain has been laid to rest in Calgary, Canada.
His namaz-e-janaza was held after the Zohar prayer and he was buried on Saturday (October 13) local time, according to American expatriate actor Shamsul Alam Bakul and his son Tashfin Hossain, professor of finance at Mount Royal University in Canada.
Tashfin Hossain said his father breathed his last on Friday (October 12) at Rockyview Hospital in Calgary, Canada. He was 81 years old at the time of his death. His life support was taken off at 10:20am local time and the doctor declared him dead around 8:00pm.
Jamaluddin was with his daughter in Atlanta, USA. From there, he visited his son Tashfin's house in Calgary, Canada. Three weeks ago, his son admitted him to the hospital when he was suffering from a respiratory illness. After medical tests, the doctors said that he had a urinary infection.
Jamaluddin Hossain started acting in stage plays from the mid-seventies. He was a member of Nagarik Natya Sampraday from 1975 to 1995. He later acted in television dramas and films. In 1997, he started his own theater group Nagarik Natyangan Ansambal and was serving as its General Secretary.
He has been irregular in acting for the past 15 years. He was not even in Bangladesh, he lived permanently in the United States. However, he has not been acting for seven or eight years.
Jamaluddin Hossain acted in many popular dramas on BTV. He has directed several popular stage plays including 'Khachhar Bhitor Achin Pakhi', 'Raja Rani', 'Chand Baniker Pala', 'Ami Nai', 'Bibi Saheb', and 'Jugalbandi'. He was also the presidium member of Bangladesh Group Theater Federation and General Secretary of Betar Television Shilpi Sangsad.
In 2013 he received Ekushey Medal Jamaluddin Hossain. His wife actress Roshan Ara Hossain is also not in good physical condition.
