Government job seekers have initiated an intense protest, demanding the cancellation of the decision to conduct the 46th BCS written exam before the end of the 44th BCS viva exam.

In view of the demand, they announced the ‘March to Jamuna’ programme at 8 pm on Tuesday and started a march towards the residence of Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

When they reached the Intercontinental Hotel in Shahbagh around 9pm, the police stopped them. The police set up barricades to stop the protesters, ensueding an altercation between the police and the protesters.

The job seekers demanded that they deliver a memorandum to the Chief Adviser. However, the police said that such a demand should be given to the department or ministry concerned, not to the Chief Adviser. This angered the protesters and a tense situation occurred.

As of last report, job seekers were still in Shahbagh at 10:30pm. Additional police forces have been deployed there to prevent any untoward situation.

Earlier, job seekers protested in front of the PSC in Agargaon from 10am to 1pm. In the afternoon, despite discussions with the PSC delegation, they announced a 'March to Jamuna' programme as no solution was found.

Job seekers said that the PSC has said that the organization is adamant on its decision to conduct the 46th BCS written exam on time. They said that it is not possible to postpone the exam citing printing of question papers and security reasons.

However, job seekers are demanding that the 44th BCS viva exam be completed first and then the 46th BCS written exam be conducted. They have announced to continue the movement on this demand.
