Minister suspends upazila health officer for not staying at workplace

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen has suspended Sylhet’s Jaintapur Family Planning Officer Rentu Purkayastha due to his absence from work.

Rentu Purkayastha was not in his office when the minister visited the hospital at 10:00am on Wednesday. The minister promptly issued an order for his suspension, citing the failure to report to the workplace on time.

During the operation, the Health Minister visited various rooms including operation theater, male and female ward rooms, staff quarters of Jayantpur Upazila Health Complex and inquired about the patients present in the hospital.

During the inspection, the health minister found several irregularities in the Jayantpur complex. He expressed his surprise to see the advertisement regarding the relocation of private chambers of doctors at an easily visible place in the complex area. The minister ordered the health officials present to explain the reason.

Addressing the officials, he said, "How can there be an advertisement regarding the transfer of doctors in a visible place inside a government institution? It could not have happened if there was no vested interest in this government health center along with private clinics and chambers."

Health Minister Biswanath then visited the Upazila Health Complex. He expressed his satisfaction in visiting this health center.
