Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Adviser Md Nahid Islam, has given assurances that the victims of an attack on a Puja venue in Old Dhaka’s Tantibazar will be given the best medical care possible and that the government will bear all costs for their treatment.

The perpetrators involved in the attacks will be arrested soon and given exemplary punishment, he said.

The adviser made the statement after visiting those injured in the attack at Mitford Hospital early on Saturday, the Ministry of Information said in a statement.

On Friday night, attackers threw an improvised explosive into a Puja venue at Old Dhaka’s Tantibazar. It did not detonate.

However, four volunteers at the venue were stabbed by the attackers. They were later admitted to Mitford Hospital.

Police say the attack was conducted by a group of muggers. They have detained three people in connection with the incident.

Nahid said: “These criminals are attempting to carry out sabotage, but we will not give them any opportunity to do so. The criminals will be arrested quickly and arrangements will be made for their exemplary punishment, no matter who they are.”

“We want to establish a standard so that no one dares to cause such an incident in the future.”

He then visited the Puja venue at Tantibazar.
