NBR lifts import duties to reduce onion prices in local market
To make onion prices more affordable in the local market, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has completely removed customs and regulatory duties on onion imports.
This decision was confirmed through a letter signed by NBR Chairman Md. Abdur Rahman Khan on Wednesday, November 6, as verified by a senior NBR official.
By withdrawing all existing import and regulatory duties, the NBR has reduced the total tax on onion imports from 10% to zero.
As a result, no taxes will be applied to onion imports. The NBR expects this to increase onion imports, boost supply in the market, and keep onion prices within reach for ordinary consumers.
