Negligence of security forces to be probed: Home minister
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that an investigation will be conducted into whether there was any negligence on the part of the security forces in the recent murder of a police constable by his colleague in front of the Palestinian embassy at Baridhara in the capital.
Talking to journalists in his ministry office in the capital on Monday (June 10), the minister said, “Many questions have arisen in everyone's mind in this incident. We are also worried. Exactly why this happened! Whether it is pre-planned or due to family problems, it can only be confirmed after investigation.”
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has formed a three-member investigation committee in this incident.
Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) KH Mahid Uddin told reporters that the committee headed by Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner Rifat Rahman Shamim has been asked to submit the probe report within seven working days.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Diplomatic Security Department Elin Chowdhury and Assistant Commissioner of Intelligence and Analysis Department (IAD) Ashfaq Ahmed have been made members of the investigation committee.
Meanwhile, the court granted seven days remand of police constable Kawsar Ali accused in the murder case. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shakeel Ahmed passed the order on Sunday (June 9).
According to the case statement, police constable Kawsar Ali allegedly shot another constable Monirul Islam to dead on Saturday (June 8) around 11:30pm in front of the Palestine Embassy in Baridhara of the capital.
The deceased policeman was working in the Diplomatic Security Departmernt. Besides, a driver of the Japanese Embassy named Sajjad Hossain was injured in this incident. He was admitted to United Hospital.
According to the police incident report, Constable Kawsar Ahmed fired 38 rounds from two magazines of his sub machine gun, killing Constable Monirul Islam on the spot.
