No decision reached after two hours of discussion, train services remain suspended
Railway running staff have been on strike since 12 midnight on Monday (January 27) demanding pension and gratuity along with running allowance along with basic salary. Due to this, railway passengers have been suffering as train services have been suspended across the country. In this situation, Railway Ministry Secretary Md. Fahimul Islam had a meeting with their leaders to remove the agitating employees from the strike. But the leaders left the meeting without making any decision after two hours of discussion.
The meeting was held at around 1:30 pm on Tuesday (January 28) in the VIP room of Dhaka Railway Station. But at around 3:45 pm, the representative of the running staff, Saidur Rahman, left without making any decision.
Later, he told reporters, we had a long meeting with the Railway Secretary-Director General. However, I left during the meeting as we could not reach any decision. I will discuss the matter with our central leaders who are there. However, we are adamant on our strike.
Also present at the meeting was BNP Chairperson's Special Assistant and Chief Coordinator of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, Advocate Shimul Biswas.
Earlier, the Railway Ministry's adviser described the issue of holding passengers hostage by stopping train services as regrettable.
And Finance Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed said that it is not possible to fulfill any other demands of the railway employees. He said that the logical demands of the railway employees have been fulfilled as much as possible. Why are they still protesting? We have done everything necessary for humanitarian reasons.
He said that the overtime issue has been resolved. It is not possible to fulfill demands beyond this. The economic situation of the country must be considered.
On the other hand, the protesting employees and labor leaders say that they will not back down from the program until their demands are accepted.
