Police charge baton, water cannon on madrasa teachers in Shahbagh
The march of Independent Ebtedayee madrasa teachers towards Jamuna, the residence of the chief adviser, demanding nationalization of jobs, has been disrupted by police barriers. The march, which started from the National Press Club, faced police barriers after reaching Shahbagh.
The police fired water cannons and sound grenades at the Independent Ebtedayee teachers who took a stand to control the situation.
At least 10-12 people were injured in this. The injured have been admitted to PG Hospital.
The incident took place in front of Shahbagh at around 12:40 pm on Sunday (January 26). Both sides are still in a face-to-face situation.
In the light of the recommendation of the Dhaka University Institute of Education and Research, the Independent Ebtedayee Madrasa Teachers' Unity Alliance took a stand in front of the National Press Club in the morning with a six-point demand, including the announcement of the nationalization of Independent Ebtedayee madrasas like primary schools.
They also announced a march from the sit-in program to the office of the Chief Advisor and a memorial service.
