President, PM pay homage at National Memorial
On the occasion of Independence, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid deep tribute to the martyrs of the Great Liberation War by laying wreaths at the Savar National Martayr's Memorial.
At this time, King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck of Bhutan also paid deep respect to the martyrs.
First, the President and the King of Bhutan laid wreaths at the altar of the National Memorial. Later, the Prime Minister laid a wreath. After that, the President and the Prime Minister stood there in silence for a while, paying deep respect to the memory of the martyrs of the Great Liberation War of 1971.
A team of Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force gave the national salute. At this time, the bugle sounded a sad tune.
Later, Sheikh Hasina, as the president of the Awami League, paid her respects by placing a wreath at the altar of the National Memorial along with the party leaders. Central leaders including Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader were present at this time.
The memorial is now open for people from all walks to pay their respects.
