The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has scheduled a public hearing on February 26 to discuss the proposal for increasing gas prices in the industrial sector, as per the recommendation of Bangladesh Oil, Gas & Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla).
This information was announced on Thursday through a press release by Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Additional Secretary of BERC.
According to the press release, the hearing will address the proposal for revising the gas tariff for existing, committed, and potential consumers in the industrial and captive sectors. The proposal was submitted by Petrobangla and six gas distribution companies:
Titas Gas Transmission & Distribution PLC (Titas Gas)
Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited (Bakhrabad Gas)
Jalalabad Gas Transmission & Distribution System Limited (Jalalabad Gas)
Pashchimanchal Gas Company Limited (Pashchimanchal Gas)

Sundarban Gas Company Limited (Sundarban Gas)
The public hearing will take place at the Bangladesh Institute of Administration and Management (BIAM) Foundation Auditorium from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on February 26, 2025.
Additionally, the notification instructed industrial organizations and institutions to submit their written statements and opinions to the commission by February 23, 2025, and to register for participation in the hearing by February 20, 2025.
It is worth noting that before proposing this price hike, the government had approved the initiative through the Energy Division and forwarded the proposal to BERC via Petrobangla. Similarly, the six gas distribution companies also submitted their proposals in favor of increasing gas prices in the industrial sector.
