Quick formation of 10th wage board demanded
Journalist leaders have demanded the formation of the 10th wage board immediately for journalists, workers, and employees of electronic and print media.
They raised the demand from the bi-annual conference of Dhaka Sub-Editors Council organized at National Press Club auditorium on Sunday (April 28).
The leaders expressed their anger and said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered the information and broadcasting ministry to form the 10th wage board while attending the conference of BFUJ on December 2 last. But the ministry has not taken any initiative in this regard so far.
At that time, they called upon the owners to implement the ninth wage board in every media organization and pay the dues. They also wanted active cooperation from the government in this regard.
The leaders, expressing concern over the skyrocketing commodity prices, urged the information ministry to announce special allowances for journalists till the formation of the 10th wage board.
The meeting presided over by Sub-Editors Council President Mamun Faraji was addressed by, among others, President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Omar Faruq, Secretary General Deep Azad, General Secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Aktar Hossain, President of the other section of DUJ Shahidul Islam and Sub- Editors Council General Secretary Abul Hossain Hriday.
Earlier, the former presidents of the Sub-Editors Council delivered welcome speeches at the event.
