Ruling AL has become more desperate: Mirza Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed concern over the rejection of former vice president of Dhaka district BNP Kafil Uddin's bail plea and sending him to jail.
In a statement sent to the media on Friday, he said, "I am expressing deep concern over the imprisonment of opposition leaders and activists throughout the country. The judges are doing so being instructed by the government. I strongly call for the withdrawal of the false case filed against Kafil Uddin and his unconditional release.”
In the statement, the BNP Secretary General said, “The ruling Awami League has now become more reckless and authoritarian after seizing power through dummy elections on January 7. In order to cling to the illegally captured state power, the government is continuing to suppress the opposition BNP and its affiliates and people of different views in various ways. The entire country has been turned into a land of oppression by denying bail to opposition leaders and activists in false and fabricated cases and sending them to jail."
He said, "Denying bail of Md Kafil Uddin and sending him to jail is another manifestation of Awami oppression. As there is no rule of law and good governance in the country at present, the leaders and activists participating in the democratic struggle are being deprived of justice. A totalitarian anarchy exists in the country now. In order to prolong the misrule, fear and panic are being spread everywhere from the city to the village."
