SC issues status quo on HC judgement over quota system
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has issued a status quo on the High Court's judgment to reinstate the freedom fighter quota system for first and second-class government jobs.
The full bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan passed the order on Wednesday.
Lawyers said that now there will be no activities on this issue for a month. It'll remain as it is.
Responding to a writ petition, the High Court on June 5 declared illegal the government decision that cancelled the 30 percent quota system for the freedom fighters' children in 2018.
On July 4, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld the High Court verdict that restored 30 percent quota system for the freedom fighters' children in ninth to 13th grades of government jobs till further order.
Students of different public universities and colleges and jobseekers have been demonstrating for the last seven days demanding reinstatement of a 2018 circular that abolished the quota system in government jobs.
