A decision has been made to detach the seven government colleges from Dhaka University (DU). Beginning with the 2024-25 academic session, no new students will be enrolled under Dhaka University.

An urgent meeting was held on Monday (January 27) in the Vice-Chancellor’s office, chaired by Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, with the principals of the seven colleges.

Several key decisions were made during the meeting:

1) A decision was made to formally separate the seven government colleges from Dhaka University.

2) The previous decision regarding the admission process for students at the seven affiliated government colleges has been revised, advancing the timeline by one year. As a result, no admissions will be taken under Dhaka University starting from the 2024-2025 academic year.

3) In response to students' demands, the Ministry of Education, through a special committee formed on December 29, strongly recommended that the new academic activities begin from the 2024-2025 academic session.

4) Starting from the 2024-2025 session, the Ministry’s special committee will be responsible for deciding on matters such as seat allocation, admission fees, and other issues based on students' requests.

5) The university administration will ensure that the education of students currently enrolled under Dhaka University remains unaffected and that they receive the necessary support to complete their studies.
