Street child raped, youth arrested

A street child was raped under the Shahbagh Metro Station in the capital. With the help of locals, police admitted the victim to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The incident occurred around 8.00 pm on Wednesday (January 15).

Mobarak, a street child who sells flower garlands in the Shahbagh area, recounted, "I heard the child screaming under the metro station at night, and a crowd quickly gathered. When I arrived, I saw the child lying in a bloodied condition, and the crowd had detained the boy responsible. The police later took the girl to the hospital."

Md. Tarek-ul-Islam, Inspector (Investigation) of Ramna police station, said, "After receiving the information at night, the raped street child was rescued from under the metro station. A 19-year-old youth named Raihan has been arrested in connection with the incident. The child has been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
