Ticket sales, refunds ongoing despite railway strike
Even though there is a railway strike, ticket sales and refunds are still working well at Kamalapur Railway Station. From early Tuesday, railway staff started the strike, asking for pensions and allowances, including their basic pay and running allowances. As a result, train services are stopped across the country, making it difficult for passengers.
Dhaka Railway Station Manager Md Sajedul Islam provided this information on January 28.
He said, "The BRTA has arranged buses for alternative travel, but the quality of these buses is uncertain. According to the information we have, long-distance BRTA buses are being used."
Regarding ticket refunds, the station manager said, "If any passenger requests a refund, their money will be returned. If a passenger wishes to travel later, they will need to purchase a new ticket. We are only offering refunds for the tickets purchased; no arrangements are made for future travel."
When asked how long the BRTA service would continue, he said, "We hope to resolve this issue quickly. Once it's resolved, we will arrange for passengers to travel by train. If trains start operating today, passengers can travel by train starting today."
At Kamalapur Railway Station, passengers were seen standing in line at various counters for ticket sales and refunds. Meanwhile, some passengers were also waiting in the same line to purchase new tickets.
Saidul Islam, an assistant at the reservation counter of Kamalapur Railway Station, said, "Tickets for the 5th of next month are available both at the counter and online. Anyone who wants can buy new tickets."
