ISPR requests not to get misled by rumours over security of St. Martin’s
Inter Services Public Relation Directorate (ISPR) has urged all not to be misguided by rumours spreading through social media over the security of St. Martin’s island centering Myanmar's ongoing internal conflict near the island.
Cutting down mountains essentially means ensuring our own destruction
Day by day, the hunger of mountain destroyers is escalating. They are targeting the numerous small and large mountains of the hilly Chattogram region. Consequently, natural biodiversity is being destroyed. From a news conference organized by the Chattogram Center for Historical and Cultural Research and the Bangladesh Environment Forum, it has been revealed that even 40 years ago, there were 200 mountains in the city of Chattogram alone, of which 60 percent have already disappeared.
Mountain poachers should be swiftly brought under the purview of law.
Mountains are natural assets, government assets, and assets of the people. Regular thefts lead to mountain cutting in the Sitakunda, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, and the hill regions of Chittagong in Bangladesh. Occasionally, law enforcement agencies conduct campaigns against mountain cutting. Although these campaigns may be paused for a few days, they resume again. Due to unchecked destruction of mountain forests, the environment is being severely damaged, leading to the extinction of various species in the forests, which is very alarming.
