The Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), Muhammad Tajul Islam, stated, "Bangladesh has formally requested India to extradite Sheikh Hasina in connection with charges of genocide and crimes against humanity. However, regardless of whether India responds to the request, the legal proceedings will continue as per their own course."

He told reporters on Sunday (January 19), "As per the extradition agreement signed with India, we have made a formal request for her return. We will see if India responds. However, whether they respond or not, the legal and judicial process will proceed on its own."

Tajul Islam commented on the arrest of other fugitive accused, saying, "The entire law enforcement system is involved in the arrest process. Since the prosecution and investigation agencies do not have a direct role, further details will be provided once the suspects are arrested and brought to the tribunal. Any clarification on this matter will be given by the law enforcement agencies."

Regarding the cases related to 'Superior Command Responsibility,' he stated, "We are working tirelessly and making progress. We expect to receive reports on a few cases in the shortest possible time. We gather information through various sources, and the investigation involves multiple testimonies. It takes time to conduct a thorough investigation, and we are continuing our efforts."
