Unidentified body found hanging at DU
The body of an unidentified individual was found hanging from a tree near the Math Building, adjacent to the Dhaka University (DU) Central Shaheed Minar area.
First noticed on Wednesday morning (January 22), the incident stirred widespread concern throughout the university area.
A rickshaw puller who frequents the Shaheed Minar area shared his account with Views Bangladesh, saying, "I noticed the body first early in the morning during my usual route. Around 8:30am, members of the Fire Service arrived, retrieved the body and took to Dhaka Medical College."
Eyewitnesses reported that the deceased was dressed in a green T-shirt and a white coat.
Dhaka University Proctor Professor Dr. Saifuddin Ahmed confirmed to 'Views Bangladesh' that the body has been moved to the Dhaka Medical College morgue. “The identity of the individual is still unknown. The cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem,” he said.
Khalid Mansur, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station, added that the deceased is not believed to have any affiliation with the university. “Preliminary findings indicate that the individual was a vagrant who lived on the sidewalks in the area and had mental health issues. He was approximately 45 years old. It seems he climbed the tree and took his own life on Tuesday night. However, a detailed investigation is underway to confirm the circumstances.”
