Zia read out Declaration of Independence on behalf of Bangabandhu: Quader
Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said General Zia read the Declaration of Independence on behalf of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Quader came up with the remarks while talking to the journalists after paying tribute to the martyrs of Savar National Memorial on Tuesday (March 26) morning.
Obaidul Quader said, "Abul Kashem, MA Hannan, and many others read the Declaration. There, General Zia also read the Declaration of Independence on behalf of Bangabandhu. Therefore, the reader of the Declaration of Independence can never be the proclaimer."
He said, "Even today there is a debate about the declaration of independence of our country. In our view, the reader of the declaration paper cannot be the proclaimer. But the question is, who is the proclaimer? This debate will end only when we go to search for the truth. That is, only Bangabandhu got the mandate to declare independence through the 1970 elections from the people of the region. And no one has any legitimate right to proclaim freedom."
Awami League General Secretary said, "Today after so many years we have to think about the undemocratic communal power who are creating obstacles against our victory, our freedom. Our oath today - under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, we will defeat and resist the communal evil power led by BNP which is hindering the consolidation of victory."
