Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged an end to the ongoing debate over the implementation of the July Charter, saying attempts are being made to create unnecessary confusion over the issue.

Speaking at the 'July Martyred Journalists Honourary Award' programme organised by the National Editors Council at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in Dhaka on Sunday (July 19), Fakhrul expressed confidence that differences surrounding the charter could be resolved through dialogue.

He said the July movement had created a historic opportunity to build a new state based on justice and fairness, stressing that the opportunity must not be wasted.

"We have the confidence and belief that we can establish a state founded on justice and equity," he said.

The minister also said the government is working to implement the commitments made by the BNP and urged opposition parties to participate in the Constitution Amendment Committee to help build broader political consensus.

Fakhrul maintained that while differing opinions over the July Charter remain, constructive discussions are the best way to reach a solution.
