The Engineers’ Rights Movement has announced the continuation of its ongoing ‘Complete Shutdown of Engineers’ across all government and private engineering universities in the country.

The shutdown, which began earlier this week, will remain in effect indefinitely until their demands are addressed, leaders said at a press conference on Thursday (August 28).

Speaking at the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in the capital, representatives of the movement presented their core grievances — primarily the structural disparity between diploma and BSc engineering degree holders in public sector recruitment.

Protesters screened a video at the press briefing to demonstrate how certain government posts are reserved exclusively for diploma engineers, effectively barring BSc engineers from applying.

Md. Wali Ullah, president of the Engineers’ Rights Movement, stated, “Our protest is built around three core demands. Despite a major development yesterday, no practical steps have been taken. Therefore, the shutdown will continue at all engineering campuses nationwide until further notice.”

He further informed that the movement has planned a series of events to build momentum, including a departmental conference later this week and a national conference next week.
