Enjoying AC breeze while holding hurricane lamps and demanding gas and power: PM

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has criticized critics of the government over the power and gas crisis, remarking that some people sit comfortably under fans while holding hurricane lamps and demanding gas and electricity, which he termed as reckless behavior.

He made these remarks while addressing a doa-munajat and aid-distribution program for the poor, organized in Mohakhali, Dhaka, to mark the birth anniversary of the late former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia on Saturday (August 15).

Addressing the country's ongoing electricity and gas shortages, the Prime Minister stated that the government is actively working to resolve the crisis, though time is required.

He shared that an initiative to construct an LNG terminal during the interim government had been halted, and the current administration is now endeavoring to build a third LNG terminal in the country.

The Prime Minister also noted that discussions are underway with China and Malaysia to tackle the power and gas deficit.

Directing his comments at critics, he urged them to provide pragmatic plans to resolve the crisis rather than engaging solely in criticism, adding that the government is willing to accept any viable plans from opposition parties if they can solve the gas and power shortages within three to six months.

Tarique Rahman stated that if the opposition can deliver a solution for gas and electricity within three to six months, the government will implement it, and if they fail, they must apologize to the public for practicing politics of confusion.

He further called for an end to confusing and reckless politics, urging critics to present plans that genuinely benefit the public and declaring that the days of destructive politics on the streets are over.

Earlier at the same event, the Prime Minister expressed his regret over the hardships faced by citizens due to electricity shortages, noting that people in various areas have suffered from power cuts recently and the government is striving to exit this situation swiftly.
