Ensure safety of Barguna rape survivor: HC

The High Court has directed the authorities concerned of Barguna to ensure the safety of a teenage rape survivor and her family.

A High Court bench, comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury, passed this order on Tuesday responding to a supplementary petition.

Barguna deputy commissioner and superintendent of police were ordered to oversee the matter.

Additionally, the court ordered the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police of Magura to ensure the security of the elder sister of an eight-year-old girl who died after rape.

This security is to be provided through the Department of Social Services.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has been instructed to take necessary measures to raise public awareness about Section 14 of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

Section 14 of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act states that the identity of a woman or child who has been subjected to rape or abuse cannot be disclosed. Violation of this provision carries a penalty of up to two years of imprisonment.
