Ensuring accountability to the people is moral responsibility: Local Government Minister

Ensuring accountability to the people is a moral responsibility, said Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

He said, "We run on the people's taxes, so ensuring accountability to the people is our moral responsibility. We are working to implement the Prime Minister's dreams and plans on a devastated economy and state system."

The minister made these remarks at a meeting held at the meeting room of the Local Government Division at the Secretariat on Thursday (February 19). Secretary Rezaul Maksud Zahedi presented the overall activities of the ministry at the meeting.

The minister said that united efforts of all are essential to build a successful state. The three levels of individuals, society and the state are closely related to each other. If we work as a team, forgetting differences and divisions, it is possible to establish a development, good governance and a just society.

He also said that strengthening state institutions does not mean just fixing the administrative structure; rather, restoring the trust of the people. Effective institutions are the basis for building a strong and development-oriented state. Therefore, the combined efforts of all concerned are essential to make the government's restructuring program successful.

The minister referred to the suffering of rural people as a real social truth and said, "The government is gradually working to alleviate their suffering by creating employment opportunities. The clear message of the Prime Minister is to restore peace and security of the people by improving law and order and controlling corruption."

At that time, State Minister of the Ministry, Mir Shahe Alam, said, this ministry is directly connected with the common people. Everyone has to work together to build a corruption-free state. The election manifesto and the announced 31-point social contract made with the people. Therefore, the ministry has to play a responsible and effective role in creating a safe, just and development-oriented environment.

He said, if the public interest is prioritized above party interests, the implementation of the election manifesto and the 31-point is possible. The sincere initiative of this ministry in building a welfare-oriented, humane and sustainable state can be the main driving force of change.
