A Dhaka court on Thursday sentenced Evaly’s Managing Director Mohammad Rassel and his wife, the company’s Chairperson Shamima Nasrin, to three years imprisonment on charges of fraud and amassing illegal wealth.

The verdict was delivered this afternoon by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monirul Islam, confirmed by plaintiff’s lawyer HM Ruhul Amin Molla.

In addition to the prison sentence, both Rassel and Nasrin were fined Tk 10,000 each. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional three months of imprisonment without hard labour.

According to the complaint, between March 27 and June 5, 2021, the plaintiff paid Tk 220,985 to purchase various items, including two motorcycles and a smartphone, but did not receive the goods. When he contacted Evaly, they gave him a cheque of Tk 180,000, which was dishonoured.

When Tahsanul Islam Al Amin contacted Evaly on January 18 to recover his money, the authorities refused to refund him. He filed a case with the court on January 25.

Evaly entered into a partnership with 3S Corporation to purchase children's items, with Evaly handling online orders, collecting and delivering products to the customers, and paying for the products.

As per the contract, Evaly did not pay for the goods, even though they delivered products worth Tk 80 lakh. 3S Corporation Chairperson Saiful Islam filed a case against Evaly’s Rassel and Shamima on April 16, 2023.
