Ex-BRUR Vice-Chancellor Hasibur Rashid produced before ICT

Former Vice-Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, Hasibur Rashid, an accused in a crimes against humanity case related to the killing of Abu Sayed, was produced before the International Crimes Tribunal on Sunday (May 17).

He was brought before the tribunal at 12:24pm, according to court sources.

Earlier on April 9, Tribunal-2 had sentenced a total of 28 individuals to different terms in connection with the Abu Sayeed killing case. Hasibur Rashid, named as the principal accused, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government on August 5, 2024, he had been in hiding.

Police said Rashid was detained on Saturday night from Salimullah Road in Mohammadpur by local Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists before being handed over to law enforcement authorities. He was later arrested and taken to the police station.

Further proceedings in the case are expected to continue at the tribunal.
