Ex-BRUR Vice-Chancellor sent to jail in Abu Sayed murder case

The International Crimes Tribunal has sent former Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Vice-Chancellor Hasibur Rashid to jail after his arrest in a crimes against humanity case linked to the killing of Abu Sayed.

A three-member International Crimes Tribunal-2 led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury passed the order on Sunday (May 17) following a hearing on the execution of the sentence warrant.

Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam represented the prosecution during the hearing.

Earlier on April 9, the tribunal sentenced 28 individuals to varying jail terms in the case. Hasibur Rashid, identified as one of the key accused, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government on August 5, 2024, Rashid had remained absconding.

Hasibur Rashid was arrested from Mohammadpur in Dhaka on Saturday night.
