Ex-Chattogram-3 MP Mahfuzur Rahman Mita arrested

Former Chattogram-3 MP Mahfuzur Rahman Mita has been arrested by the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police in connection with multiple cases filed with Sandwip Police Station.

A DB Gulshan division team arrested Mita during a raid on a house on Road 43 in Gulshan-2 around 1:30am on Tuesday (September 22), said DB Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner AFM Anwar Hossain Khan.

Police said they conducted the raid based on a tip-off and arrested Mita, a former Awami League lawmaker. He was later taken to the DB office on Minto Road, with further legal proceedings underway.

Mita was elected from Chattogram-3 in the 2014, 2018 and 2024 national elections as an Awami League candidate.

The Anti-Corruption Commission filed a case against him in February, alleging that he acquired assets worth about Tk 9.88 crore beyond his known sources of income.

The ACC said the alleged irregularities covered the period from 2002 to June 2024.
