Ex-Chief Justice Khairul Haque’s bail hearing postponed

The High Court Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque's bail and case dismissal petition.

A bench comprising Justice Md. Zakir Hossain and Justice KM Rasheduzzaman passed the order on Sunday (August 17) after Khairul Haque's lawyers applied for time.

However, a new hearing date has been scheduled for October, following the High Court's vacation.

Earlier, during the hearing on August 11, a scuffle broke out between the state counsel and Khairul Haque's lawyers, prompting the court to reschedule the hearing for August 17.

On July 24, Detective Branch (DB) personnel arrested him from his residence in Dhanmondi and sent him to jail later that night. He was subsequently shown arrested in a case filed at Fatulla Police Station in Narayanganj, accusing him of delivering an illegal verdict and fabricating a judgment to abolish the caretaker government system.

Additionally, he was granted a seven-day remand in another case filed by Shahbagh Police Station on similar charges.
