Ex-DIG freedom fighter Dewan Habibullah passes away
Former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Bangladesh Police and a distinguished freedom fighter Dewan Habibullah has passed away on Saturday evening. He was 83 years old.
He passed away at 5:30pm on February 8, 2025, at his residence in the capital. He leaves behind his wife, numerous family members, and many of admirers to mourn his death.
Born in 1943 in the respectable Muslim family of Jahangirpur village in Netrokona, Dewan Habibullah joined the Bangladesh Police Force as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1973. Over the years, he served as Superintendent of Police in various districts, including Thakurgaon, Gopalganj, and Rajshahi. He retired from the police force in 2000 as the DIG (Administration) at Police Headquarters.
The funeral prayer for the late Dewan Habibullah was held after Isha at the Bangladesh Police Central Jam-e-Mashjid in Rajarbagh Police Lines. Police officers, colleagues, and relatives attended the ceremony to pay their respects. Following the funeral, he was given an official police funeral. He was later buried in his family graveyard in Madan, Netrokona.
Inspector General of Police, Bangladesh, Baharul Alam BPM, expressed deep sorrow and shock over the passing of former DIG Dewan Habibullah. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of his departed soul.
The President of the Bangladesh Police Service Association and CID Chief Additional IG Md. Matiur Rahman Sheikh, along with General Secretary and Dhaka District Police Superintendent Md. Anisuzzaman, also expressed their condolences. They prayed for the eternal peace of Dewan Habibullah’s soul and extended their deepest sympathies to his family.
