Ex-DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman, two others sentenced to death
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 sentenced former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman and two others to death in connection with the killings of six people in Chankharpul during the July uprising.
Additionally, five other accused received varying prison terms.
A three-member bench led by ICT-1 Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder passed the order at 12:30pm on Monday (January 26).
The other members of the bench are Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmud and retired district and sessions judge Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
The other two sentenced to death are former DMP Deputy Commissioner Sudip Kumar Chakraborty and former Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ramna Division Shah Alam Md. Akhtarul Islam.
Meanwhile, former Assistant Commissioner of Ramna Division Mohammad Imrul was sentenced to six years, former Shahbagh Police Inspector (Operations) Md. Arshad Hossain to four years, and constables Md. Sujon Mia, Md. Imaz Hossain Emon, and Md. Nasirul Islam to three years each.
