Ex-IGP Dr M Enamul Haque passes away

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Bangladesh Dr M Enamul Haque, who also served as a member of the Bangladesh Law Commission, has died.

He passed away in the early hours of Sunday (August 30).

The BNP Media Cell confirmed his death in a Facebook post.

The message said, “Dr Enamul Haque was the elder uncle of Prime Minister’s Adviser Rehan Asif Asad. We pray for the salvation of his departed soul and express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family.”

Dr Enamul Haque earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Rajshahi University and an LLB from the University of Dhaka. He later obtained a PhD from the University of New Orleans in the United States.

During his long career, he served as principal of the Bangladesh Police Academy and commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). He was promoted to IGP in 1991.

After retiring from the police service, he served as a member of the Bangladesh Law Commission from 2004 to 2007.

He is survived by his wife, academic and writer Anamika Haque Lily, their daughter, Aditi Titas Haque, and two sons, Ashim Shaital Haque and Anik R. Haque.
