Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun has admitted responsibility for crimes against humanity committed during the July mass uprising. Speaking before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), Mamun acknowledged his involvement in the killings that took place during the uprising.

Mamun, who was the police chief at the time, has expressed his willingness to serve as a prosecution witness in the case, offering his testimony voluntarily.

On Thursday, the ICT-1 formally framed charges against three accused, including Sheikh Hasina, for their alleged roles in the human rights violations during the July uprising. The tribunal also dismissed the accused’s plea for discharge.

The order was issued by a three-member bench led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder, along with Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.

This marks the official start of the trial against Sheikh Hasina and two others in the July genocide case, a significant step toward accountability for the atrocities committed during that period.
