Ex-minister Sadhan Chandra Majumdar on 7-day remand
Former Food Minister and ex-MP of Naogaon-1 constituency, Sadhan Chandra Majumdar, has been placed on a seven-day remand by the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court in connection with the murder of a Daffodil University student.
The order was issued on Friday (October 4) by Magistrate Saifuddin Hossain.
The police had filed a 10-day remand request related to the case concerning the alleged murder of 21-year-old Ramij Uddin Rupok, a Computer Science student at Daffodil University. Rupok was shot during the anti-discrimination student movement in the Kawran Bazar area of Tejgaon, Dhaka.
The investigating officer made the remand request to ensure a thorough investigation, while the defense lawyer sought to cancel the remand and requested bail.
Majumdar was arrested on Thursday around 8:30pm from the Bashundhara residential area in Dhaka.
Ramij Uddin Rupok was tragically shot and killed on August 4 during the protests.
Following the incident, his father, AKM Rokibul Ahmed, filed a case at Tejgaon Police Station, naming former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 223 others as defendants in the case.
