Ex-MP Safura Begum arrested in Dhaka
Former reserved-seat MP and Central Executive Committee member of Awami League, Advocate Safura Begum Rumi, has been arrested by the Lalmonirhat District Detective Branch (DB) police.
She was taken into custody on Wednesday night from a residence in the capital's Mohakhali.
Lalmonirhat Superintendent of Police Asaduzzaman confirmed the arrest on Thursday morning (April 9).
He said, Safura Begum faces multiple cases filed at Lalmonirhat Sadar, Rangpur's Kotwali, and Mohakhali police stations in Dhaka, including allegations of murder, sabotage, and fraud.
The SP added that following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government, Safura Begum had gone into hiding in Dhaka and was allegedly working with the banned faction “Joy Bangla Brigade” to reorganise Awami League activities.
Further legal proceedings against her are underway.
