Ex-NBR chairman Abdur Rahman Khan appointed World Bank alternate executive director
Former National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan has been appointed as Bangladesh's alternate executive director at the World Bank for a three-year term.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification on Sunday (August 23) confirming the contractual appointment, which will take effect from the date he joins the post.
According to the notification, Abdur Rahman Khan will serve as the alternate executive director for Bangladesh's constituency at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, DC, for three years.
Under the terms of his appointment, his post-retirement leave and related benefits will remain suspended during his tenure. He will also be barred from engaging in any other profession or business or maintaining employment with any government, semi-government or private organisation.
Other terms and conditions of his contractual appointment will be determined through the relevant agreement, the notification said.
Abdur Rahman Khan previously served as chairman of the NBR. Reports of his proposed appointment to the World Bank first emerged in July, when the government's process for appointing him was reportedly nearing completion.
As alternate executive director, he will work with the constituency representing Bangladesh on the World Bank's Board of Executive Directors, giving the former top revenue official a key role in representing Bangladesh at the international financial institution.
