Ex-President Shahabuddin among several others named in ICT complain
A complaint alleging crimes against humanity has been filed with the prosecution of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against former President Mohammed Shahabuddin, with former President Abdul Hamid also named in the submission.
The complaints were separately submitted on Sunday (July 26) by the Bangladesh Azad Party and the Rashtra Sanglap Forum.
Speaking to reporters at the tribunal premises, retired Colonel Hasinur Rahman confirmed the filing.
Chief Prosecutor Md. Aminul Islam said the prosecution had received the complaints but had not yet reviewed their contents in detail.
According to the Rashtra Sanglap Forum, the complaint relates to alleged crimes connected to the July 2024 mass uprising, urging the tribunal to investigate the roles of the individuals named in accordance with the law.
The complaint additionally seeks investigations into several figures from Bangladesh's cultural arena.
The list includes Ferdous Ahmed, Meher Afroz Shaon, Riaz Ahmed, Aruna Biswas, Shomi Kaiser, Rokeya Prachy, Mahiya Mahi, Nipun Akter, Tanvin Sweety, Hridi Haque, Jyotika Jyoti, Saju Khadem, Sohana Saba, Pia Jannatul, Shamima Tushti, Hero Alom, Ashna Habib Bhabna, Simon Sadik, Zayed Khan, Sujata Azim, Azizul Hakim, Chandan Reza, Asaduzzaman Noor and Maria Kispatta.
However, the tribunal has not made any decision on the complaints.
Under the legal process, the allegations will first undergo preliminary scrutiny before a decision is made on whether they will be accepted for formal investigation.
