Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb leaves country
Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, has left the country.
He departed Bangladesh for the Netherlands on Saturday, February 14, at 9:50 am via Emirates Airlines flight EK-583.
sources said that he did not possess a copy of a government order (GO) for travelling abroad at the time. Later, Faiz passed through immigration by showing a soft copy of the GO to immigration police. However, as there was no ban or restriction against Faiz Tayyeb regarding leaving the country or travelling abroad, no further obstacle was placed on his departure at the airport.
Nahid Islam resigned from his position as Adviser to the Ministries of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Information and Broadcasting in February 2025 to form the NCP. Subsequently, when the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology fell vacant, Faiz Ahmad was appointed as Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for this ministry with the rank of state minister on March 5 of that year, nearly a year ago. Prior to this, he served as 'Policy Adviser (Reform and Coordination)' in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division.
After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024, the interim government brought Faiz Taiyeb, a Dutch national, to the country to work on reforming the technology sector.
Discussions had been ongoing regarding the future of officials holding the rank of adviser, minister and state minister in the Yunus government since the 13th National Parliamentary Election was held on February 12.
A high-level source from an intelligence agency concerned with airport passenger movement stated that he left the country on an Emirates flight to Dubai at 9:55 am, with his final destination being the Netherlands. He used his Dutch passport when departing the country. Concerned sources also said that as there was no travel ban against him, he was not prevented from leaving at the airport.
