The fire at the Prothom Alo newspaper office in Karwan Bazar and the Daily Star newspaper office in Farmgate in the capital has been brought under control. The fire at these two media outlets was brought under control with the help of the army.

Upon receiving the news of the fire at Prothom Alo-Daily Star offices, the fire service unit tried to reach the spot quickly, but was delayed because hundreds of people standing on the road obstructed their movement. Later, the fire extinguishing work started with the help of the police and the army.

On Thursday (December 18), the duty officer of the Fire Service Headquarters, Md. Shajahan, confirmed this information. He said that the unit was sent from Tejgaon Fire Station as soon as the news of the fire was received, but it was delayed in reaching the specified place due to the obstruction of hundreds of people on the road. At one stage, the fire service unit reached the spot with the help of law enforcement and the army and is working to extinguish the fire.

Eyewitnesses said that a group of protesters arrived in front of the Prothom Alo office with a procession from the direction of Shahbagh. They shouted slogans against Prothom Alo and India. At one stage, some people entered the office and vandalized it and set fire to it in front of the office.

At the same time, an attack was also carried out on the Daily Star building in Farmgate. Live videos circulating on social media showed a group armed with sticks attacking and vandalizing the office. Several journalists were trapped inside.

They were later rescued from the roof of the building.
