A fire broke out at a warehouse owned by British American Tobacco (BAT) Bangladesh in Ashulia, on the outskirts of Dhaka, prompting an extensive firefighting operation involving six fire service units.

The blaze erupted at around 7:30am at the facility in the Nolam area of Ashulia on Wednesday (August 5). As of 1:00pm, firefighters were still battling the flames, with the fire yet to be fully contained.

According to Deputy Assistant Director of the Fire Service Hafizur Rahman, four units from the Zirabo Fire Station were initially dispatched after the emergency call was received. They were later reinforced by two additional units from the DEPZ Fire Station as the operation intensified.

He said firefighters were continuing efforts to bring the blaze under control, adding that the operation was expected to take more time due to the scale of the fire.

Police also responded to the incident. Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tarikul Islam said a police team was deployed immediately after the fire was reported and was working alongside fire service personnel to secure the area and assist emergency operations.

The cause of the fire and the extent of damage were not immediately known. No casualties had been reported at the time of filing this report, while authorities said an investigation would be launched once the fire was fully extinguished.
